Why so mad?

MaryAnn Walker Coaching

Hey there,

If you’re highly sensitive, you probably feel emotions more intensely than others—and that includes anger. It can come on suddenly, quietly simmer, or show up as irritability, frustration, or even exhaustion.

For many HSPs, anger feels uncomfortable or “wrong” because we’ve learned to prioritize others’ feelings over our own. But here’s the truth: anger is a natural, healthy part of being sensitive. It’s your inner signal letting you know when something isn’t right, when boundaries are being crossed, or when your needs aren’t being met.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been exploring anger in a three-part series that I think every recovering people-pleaser and highly sensitive person needs to hear:

1️⃣ Understanding Anger & People Pleasing – Why many of us struggle to feel anger safely, how it sneaks into our lives as passive aggression or over-accommodating, and why resisting it only makes things worse. https://www.buzzsprout.com/2028767/episodes/17804224

2️⃣ When You’re Feeling the Weight of the World – How the current stress, uncertainty, or crises in the world can amplify our emotions, and practical ways to transform overwhelm into hope and meaningful action. https://www.buzzsprout.com/2028767/episodes/18119927

3️⃣ Why Your Anger Isn’t the Problem—But a Path to Clarity and Solutions – How to reframe anger as a protective, motivating force, set healthier boundaries, honor your core values, and turn those uncomfortable feelings into real, positive change. https://www.buzzsprout.com/2028767/episodes/17804444

I’ve walked this path myself—learning to sit with anger without shame, to recognize when I’m overextending, and to honor what I truly need. And I promise you: once you start understanding your anger, it stops being something to hide or suppress and starts being a guide, helping you live more authentically and fully.

Take a few minutes to listen, reflect, and explore these episodes. Notice where anger shows up in your life, and approach it with curiosity instead of judgment.

With compassion and understanding,

"MaryAnn shares empathetic, understanding, spot-on insights + strategies that help me manage my anxiety. Sometimes I get hung up on a diagnosis and look to understand it the best I can, not realizing that what I usually need are techniques and reframing to help handle my symptoms. MaryAnn does an amazing job of creating a space that does exactly that. Thank you! :)"

Too often, we allow the things that weren’t “supposed” to happen to dictate how we feel and how we show up in the world. And when that happens, we end up feeling like a victim of our circumstances. But what if it didn’t have to be that way? This time of year has a way of waking up invisible shoulds and...

So many highly sensitive people and recovering people-pleasers reach a point where they...

MaryAnn Walker Coaching Hey there, friend. I hope you had a warm and meaningful Thanksgiving—whether yours was big and bustling or quiet and reflective. This time of year always reminds me how healing it can be to pause, take a breath, and truly let ourselves feel gratitude. And as I was recording this week’s podcast episode with my guest, Natalie King, I was struck by how beautifully gratitude and joy weave into each other. Natalie and I had the most powerful conversation about joy—how we...
